The referendum on the alternative vote was a clear win for the No Campaign. The local elections, held on the same day, also saw the Liberal Democrats lose councillors – all in all, a bad day for Lib Dems.
However, the defeat of AV should not mean the end to electoral reform. The time is right for reform of the House of Lords. There is no place in British Politics for a completely unelected upper chamber. I’ll set out my suggestions in the next couple of days.
