There’s recently been something of a backlash against the Conservative’s thoughts about how to help women. The leaked document sets out the issue – that many policies have had a disproportionate effect on women – and some ideas around possible approaches.
The reaction by many has been to call this spin (Yvette Cooper, in this article) or to express incredulity (this article). I’m not sure that’s accurate. It’s recognising a problem. This isn’t the final list of solutions, or a comprehensive policy, but a collection of ideas. Some of them are good, others not so – but that’s all part of the process.
In short: don’t condem us for not having an answer when we haven’t finished thinking.
